What Are 3 Ways That You Can Tell If Your Heater Is Energy Efficient?

What makes a heater energy efficient besides the engineers that design them and the manufacturers that make them? If your heater isn’t too old, it’s easy to figure out if yours is energy efficient or not. It also doesn’t take a lot of effort to look for the signs.

Your Heating Bills Are Amazingly Low

Your home is quite toasty when it needs to be, but the utility bills are showing quite a low amount of energy used. In fact, you might be concerned that the gas or electric meters aren’t reading correctly. Barring that there’s anything wrong with the corresponding meter for your heater, low heating bills are a sure sign that your heater is really energy efficient.

You Can Set the Thermostat Lower and It’s Still Warm

Usually, an inefficient heater will respond with colder temperatures when the thermostat is set lower. An efficient heater can still create plenty of warmth in your home without being set at a higher temperature. If you can set the thermostat at 68 degrees but your house still feels like it’s 72, that’s a really efficient heater. You can even try this as an actual experiment in your home when the weather turns colder.

The Efficiency Rating Sticker Is a Dead Giveaway

If your heater is less than ten years old, there’s a really good chance it has a yellow efficiency rating sticker posted somewhere on the outside. It tells you how much gas or electricity it uses per year, which will be reflected in your energy consumption and heating bills. Some efficiency does peter out after a decade, but you can still expect the sticker to be fairly accurate. Keeping the heater well maintained means that the rating sticker should remain fairly true to form for many years of use.
